SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The Greater Kansas City (MO) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated seeks to recognize and reward academic excellence and promote and support students pursuing post-secondary education. 

​

Mission

The Greater Kansas City (MO) Chapter Links Scholarship Committee awards college scholarships to high-achieving students of African American descent from the Kansas City metropolitan area. 

​

Criteria for High School Students

Students who are interested in applying for a high school scholarship must be of:

  • African American descent

  • Currently enrolled in a Kansas City Metropolitan-area high school*

  • Graduating senior who has completed their first semester

  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 weighted scale, and 

  • NOT related to a member of the Links organization.

* Kansas City Metropolitan-area high school is any accredited high school located in Cass, Clay, Jackson or Platte Counties in Missouri, or Johnson or Wyandotte Counties in Kansas.

 

The following factors will be evaluated to determine which high school students are selected to receive a scholarship:

  • Cumulative grade point average including first semester senior year (transcript required)

  •  ACT or SAT test scores

  •  Most significant extracurricular activities (including employment and community service) and any respective leadership positions

  •  Honors and achievements throughout high school

  •  Essay

  •  Two written references

  •  Whether the student plans to attend an HBCU (in which case they may be eligible for an HBCU Scholarship)

      MOZEAL CROFTON CONTINUING SCHOLARSHIP  COLLEGE STUDENTS

Purpose

The Greater Kansas City (MO) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated (“GKC Links”) seeks to recognize and reward academic excellence and promote and support students pursuing post-secondary education.

Mission

The Greater Kansas City (MO) Chapter of the Links Scholarship Committee awards college scholarships to high-achieving students of African American descent from the Kansas City metropolitan area. 

 

Criteria for College Students

Students who are interested in applying for a continuing scholarship must be:

  • Past GKC Links scholarship recipient

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

  • Use the scholarship funds to continue pursuing an undergraduate education

  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and

  • NOT related to a member of the Links organization.

         

The following factors will be evaluated to determine which college students are selected to receive a continuing scholarship:

  • Current cumulative GPA with an official transcript

  • Most significant college and community activities and any respective leadership positions

  • Honors and achievements within the past year

  • Essay
